I saw this film for the starting time time when information technology came out in theaters . My dad was a Clint eastwood fan at the time so ...i was too. Every bit a kid i thought information technology was neat , and all the dizzy hyginx were cool , but the pic certainly doesn't stand the test of time. It comes off sooo cheesy and pandering. Its certainly an uplift compared to a film like v like shooting fish in a barrel pieces which is depressing as hell.
Merely its only too lame . Corny . It tries to be feelgood merely it goes over the line into pandering to depression iq working course types .
I volition say this , i lived out some of this meandering in life in my early 20s , simply if you live like the characters in the film at their portrayed age today , youd probably be a meth head selling dope for the " blackness widows " .
Perhaps the pic was most a simpler time when there was less classism , and living in trailer parks and junky homes with cars and tools in the chiliad were accepted , only oh how things take changed .
Its a good motion-picture show if its 3 in the morning , your bored equally hell , and youre gonna down some munchies n beer.
My favorite scene is where he hooks the big trout ...then slaps the guy in the confront with information technology . I liked the scene mainly because of the fishing and outdoors aspect ...
Clint is a funny dude . I knew a guy that worked with him in Oregon years ago . The guys proper noun was Barney. Clint tried to be a logger . The guy that knew him said " he got into logging for the romanticism of it. The ruggedness and outdoors etc...but he couldnt hack information technology "....they liked his movies simply joked that he acted out what he coudnt do in real life . Its all good . Smoke em if you got em . Some of the guys he worked with didnt go far working in the woods...killed . Its a dangerous chore. Barney latter died of cancer in the early 80s .
Although this picture gets panned , it was successful at the box part

Unless yous lived the seventies, you'll completely miss the bespeak of this great movie. The eight per centum that hated this movie certainly did not. They were either as well immature to remember or were at abode working on their postage collection. Going out with the bud and womanizing while listening to some great western flavored tunes from Charlie Rich and Mel Tillis. Rich was huge in the pop music world during those days. Ah those were the days.

For all the bad reviewers out at that place. It is a comedy. Its not supposed to be a meaningful life altering movie. That said just take it for what it is and quit being so serious. Its an entertaining look dorsum at the late seventies. Reminds me of when I was a kid. I am only amazed that there were ever rednecks with guns in Southern California, how times have changed as another reviewer said.

I've been waiting my whole life to see this flick simply it ended upwards beingness a bit of a let down. Clint Eastwood's character isn't really a trucker, he just drives a pickup truck. Has a weird, meandering plot that doesn't really go anywhere, sort of a lame honey story. And there was nowhere NEAR enough of Clyde! I tuned in for the Orangutan and he'southward barely in information technology! Hey man, where's the ape?!? Had a decent '70's vibe, but could have delivered a LOT more...

This is an underappreciated comedy. I have watched it too many times and still express mirth at the antics of Ma (Ruth Gordon) & the inept motorbike crew who are frequently in other Eastwood movies from that era. I discovered that this movie grossed over $100 million dollars afterward it's debut and with strange sales. Quite a feat for a low upkeep comedy. There is plenty of action from the prizefighting, the cops who are pummeled by Eastwood's graphic symbol, Philo. Aye, it is an off-beat out one-act and is the polar contrary of the Dirty Harry genre. Still, I love this movie subsequently more than 40 years.

I watched to see Clyde, the Orangutan. Mod primatology strongly condemns using primates in entertainment. Nevertheless, I was curious. This picture show has totally unbelievable characters who practise not speak or act remotely similar the working class they are supposed to represent. The plot lurches around with a slim hold on continuity and the humor predates Keystone Kops - i.eastward. evil bikers rolling around in mud puddles. Speaking of those bikers, they were some Hollywood writer'south fantasy with no resemblance to bodily bikers. Philo gets away with vicious assaults and various other crimes every bit though he comes from a different planet - one where he is not subject field to law nor common sense.
This could almost exist a comic strip, but it is non presented in that light.
As for Clyde, he does a fine job of being an Orangutan, and equally such invokes dearest and wonder and indeed carries the motion-picture show on his hairy shoulders.

If you enjoyed this moving-picture show when information technology came out and are now watching it for nostalgia purposes you may be disappointed. The film did not age well. In that location is actually no plot. The just thing worse than Sondra Locke'south acting is her singing. Beverly D'Angelo is wasted. Ruth Gordon's blasphemous old lady schtick wears sparse very quickly. Your cornball expectations will likely not be fulfilled.

I saw this for the first time when it striking the theaters in '79. Those were the days when just the skillful guys had guns, and Clint could beat up an unabridged motorcycle gang and we about one-half-believed it. Fun days. xl years later, it's RIP Sondra Locke, Geoffrey Lewis, Ruth Gordon, Joyce Jameson, John Quade, and Mantis the ape. Sigh.
